Russia and Ukraine Political Crisis: Past and Present

Congratulations, you've completed this seminar. Let your friends and coworkers know!

Description

In late February 2022, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine caused havoc throughout the geopolitical landscape and resulted in a humanitarian crisis within the country.

The failure of Russia’s “plan A” — a deeply miscalculated lightning strike in Ukraine by Russian forces designed to surround major cities in Ukraine and topple down its government — turned out to be an unmitigated and poorly performed military disaster.

In this seminar, experts discuss the history and the current state of the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, the precedence that would be set for countries like North Korea and Iran for violation of agreements, and the role of the United Nations in the growing catastrophe. The panel features former California congresswoman and Presidential Scholar-in-Residence at the USC Price School of Public Policy Jane Harman, and former director for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Russia on the White House’s National Security Council Alexander Vindman. The discussion is moderated by Mike MurphyUSC Center for the Political Future co-director and NBC political analyst.
