New Online Master’s and Certificate Program in Pain Medicine

The Keck School of Medicine of USC, in collaboration with the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, announces a new Online Master’s Degree in Pain Medicine and a 1-year Online Pain Medicine Certificate, beginning in August, 2017. These programs are specifically designed for the practicing professional who wants to improve skills and gain expertise in caring for patients with complex pain conditions.

World-renowned faculty members will provide a unique opportunity for accomplished professionals to explore the burgeoning field of Pain Medicine while maintaining their practice. Both the Master’s and Certificate programs are suitable for practicing health professionals from a wide variety of fields, including physicians, dentists, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, psychologists, pharmacists, etc. All coursework is done online, and students participate in weekly live online sessions with faculty and program residents, ensuring a dynamic, collaborative and social learning experience.

The programs are directed by Dr. Steven Richeimer, Division Chief of Pain Medicine at Keck School of Medicine, and Dr. Glenn Clark, Director of the Orofacial Pain/Oral Medicine Center at the Ostrow School of Dentistry. Addressing the need for a Pain curriculum, Dr. Richeimer pointed out that “the family physician, the general surgeon, the psychiatrist, the pediatrician, all the medical specialties deal so much with pain that they can benefit enormously by an advanced education.”

The deadline for applications to both Pain Medicine programs is August 5, 2017. To learn more, prospective students can register for a live online information session to hear from the Program Directors, Dr. Richeimer and Dr. Clark, on Wednesday, July 26 at 7:30 AM PDT or Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 12 PM PDT. They can also explore the programs at the Pain Medicine Programs website.
